چکیده

Object recognition in X-ray images is an interesting application of machine vision that can help reduce the workload of human operators of X-ray scanners at security checkpoints. However, automatic inspection systems using machine vision techniques are not yet commonplace for generic threat detection in X-ray images. Moreover, this problem has not been well explored by machine vision community due to the lack of publicly available X-ray image datasets. This paper aims to fill in this gap. We first present a comprehensive evaluation of image classification and object detection in X-ray images using standard local features in a BoW framework with (structural) SVMs. Then, we extend the features to utilize the extra information available in dual energy X-ray images. Finally, we propose a multi-view branch-and-bound algorithm for multiview object detection. Through extensive experiments on three object categories (laptops, guns, bottles), we show that the classification and detection performance substantially improves with the extended features and multiple views.

Object Detection in Multi-view X-Ray Images

Motivated by aiding human operators in the detection of dangerous objects in passenger luggage, such as in airports, we develop an automatic object detection approach for multi-view X-ray image data. We make three main contributions: First, we systematically analyze the appearance variations of objects in X-ray images from inspection systems. We then address these variations by adapting standar...

Comparison of Bone Mineral Density Measured by Dual X-ray, Axial Dual-energy Photon X-ray Absorptiometry and Laser Absorptiometry of Calcaneus

The objective of this study was to validate the use of bone mineral measurements of the calcaneus bone by dual X-ray and laser (DXL) in a cross-sectional study carried out in an osteoporosis clinic. Measurements of bone mineral density (BMD) at proximal femur and spine were obtained by dual-energy photon X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Osteoporosis was defined by a DEXA T-score <-2.5 at the femora...

بررسی امکان تشخیص اتوماتیک میکروکلسیم های بافت پستان با استفاده از تکنیک دو انرژی تصویربرداری اشعه ایکس جهت تشخیص زودرس سرطان پستان

Background and purpose: Dual-energy mammography technique is used for improving the accuracy of breast cancer diagnosis especially in dense breast cases and also detection of micro-calcifications which are early signs of breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the automatic separation feasibility of micro-calcification images in breast tissue images and evaluating its accura...

Investigation and Measurement of Ash Content of Coal in Zirab Coal Mine-Iran Using Dual Energy -Ray and X-Ray Fluorescence Methods

Coal with low ash content has an important role in the coal and steel industry. There are different methods to measure the ash content. The conventional method which is used in most coal mines of Iran, is to burn the coal and measure the remaining ash. A new method has been recently developed at Nuclear Research Center (NRC) of Iran, Which works on the basis of the absorption of the dual en...

Photon counting and color X-ray imaging in standard CIS technology

With the extensive usage of radiography in many medical diagnosis protocols, the urge to achieve the lowest possible dose imaging is a driving force for the X-ray image sensor community. The ultimate signal to noise ratio that one can theoretically achieve is the quantum limit, where each and every photon reaching the imager is counted. Moreover, photon counting comes with an additional benefit...
